It's Official! Shailene Woodley is Tris & Speaks About the Role in Divergent for the 1st Time

No "official" announcement has been made about Divergent Movie casting from the film studio Summit Entertainment, so every article mentioning Shailene Woodley as Tris Prior has been speculation, until now!

In a new interview with Shailene at Sundance Film Festival promoting The Spectacular Now, the future female lead talks about the role of Tris, thus making it OFFICIAL Divergent Fans!!!

I loved what she had to say:

"I read the book, and I thought it was really—my whole thing, to be honest, is I never wanted to do big films," she explained. "I've been acting for 16 years, and it was never something that I wanted to do, to be in a big blockbuster film, especially one that was similar to 'Hunger Games' or 'Twilight.' You know, one that had a huge pre-existing fan base and one that would carry on for multiple years."

But that all changed once she cracked the spine on Veronica Roth's young-adult novel.

"After I read the book, I was really profoundly moved, and it's really metaphorical for things that are going on today, specifically things that I'm passionate about and things that I want to make public and things that I want to educate people on," Shailene said. "So I think it's a really great platform, not only artistically but also from a human level just to expose these kind of messy, nasty things that are going on in our country."

What types of things, specifically?

"In 'Divergent,' people are injected with this serum and then controlled by it, and I think that it's really funny that right now we're starting to chip our dogs and chip our babies," she said. "That's just a small example. I could go on for hours. There's also mind control that kind of gets dealt with in 'Divergent.' That's going on today and nobody knows about that."

i love her already. it would be nice if she went blonde but i wont cry over it if they keep her brunette-- she should look good in the role. i'm pretty sure there will be some whining with the height and her weight (she's 5'8, nowhere near scrawny) but she's got the DIvergent spirit all over her lol!

Comment by Scarlett Green on January 19, 2013 at 4:19am: There will always be people that are unhappy about who gets cast, and if the hate it enough, they'll stop being fans, and we're better off without those fussy people.

But look at Twilight. They hated Rob Pattinson so much that they started a petition to remove him from the role. But now they love him.

I think they made a good choice in casting her, and I think we'll all end up trusting their judgement eventually, and especially when it comes to the casting Four/Tobias and other characters.
